Supreme Leader appoints new Army general commander

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Sunday appointed Major General Ataollah Salehi to the post of general commander of the Army. READ MORE

The appointment was made after the Supreme Leader accepted resignation of Major General Mohammad Salimi from the post, assigning him as special advisor to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

"I appoint you, with your revolutionary record and valuable experience in different sections of the Army especially during the Sacred Defense years, to the post of general commander of Army of the Islamic Republic," the Supreme Leader said in a decree to Major General Salehi.

"I expect the Army of the Islamic Republic which enjoys huge reserve of faithful and efficient manpower to enhance level of combat preparedness in light of the experience it has acquired during Sacred Defense years and thanks to the young and skillful forces the Army has trained," the Supreme Leader said.

"I appreciate the sincere and valuable services of Major General Salimi during his term in office."

Meanwhile, in another decree to Major General Salimi, Supreme Leader assigned him to serve as Special Advisor to Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
